A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Dave White, MNYCA President
I am humbled and honored to serve as the MNYCA President for the 2022 - 2023 term. Many of us expected the supply chain issues to be a thing of the past by now. They appear to be sticking around but our industry is resilient and will get through this. When I look back at my President’s message from 2012, I see that the economy was not doing well then.
I look forward to working with an awesome Board of Directors. Joining the Board of Directors for the 2022 - 2023 campaign are Christine Gehres - SpecialChem, Tom Kinlin- Shamrock Technologies and Frank Winkelman – Pettit Paint. Continuing to serve the MNYCA as Board members are Dr. Frank Cangelosi, Thomas Penny, Michele Claeson, Kim Rafferty, Thomas Daquila, Bruce Schimmel, Howard Goldstein, Robert Whiteley, John Kehmna, Steve Sanchez, Andy Romano and Kurt Maas.
Your Officers for 2022 - 2023 are; Chairman of the Board - Jason Anagnostis, President - Dave White, Vice President- Alicia Colacci.
I would like to thank Bruce Schimmel for stepping in for a second time as President of the MNYCA under very trying times. As I write this, there is a great amount of turmoil in the world. However, the MNYCA has been a constant for over 136 years. The annual meeting was held on Wednesday, May 18th, at Macaluso’s in Hawthorne, NJ. Attendance was good as everyone was happy to be able to meet in person. This outdoor event was held on the new veranda. Everyone had a great time as food and drink flowed. We will be holding our Holiday Party at the same venue on December 1st. Of course, this will be an indoor party as it will be December.
We had our annual visit to Yankee Stadium on June 29th. As usual, the Bronx Bombers did not disappoint, unless you are a Mets fan that is. It was a wonderful event in the Audi club. The food and networking was outstanding. You should make plans to attend this event next year, as it is a great way to say thanks to your customers and network.
If you enjoy hitting that little white ball around the golf course, please join us for the MNYCA Golf Outing Tuesday, September 13th at Neshanic Station, NJ. We’ll be back at this spectacular venue. It is a great course with a fantastic caterer. Come challenge the golf gods and hydrophilic golf balls.
We will be holding our fall forum in October. It will feature Daniel Pickard discussing the supply chain. A very pertinent topic. Sustainability seems to be the VOCs of the 2020’s. Our industry has made great strides in this arena and will continue to push the envelope to develop new unique products that will enable us to meet the goals of sustainability.
What seemed like a long way off a couple of months ago, the Eastern Coatings Show is just around the corner. ECS will take place May 16 - 18, 2023 at Harrah’s Atlantic City. We are looking forward to seeing everyone down the “Jersey Shore”. It promises to be a “can’t miss” show.
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
This vision represents where Benjamin Moore comes from, what the company continues to value, and where it is headed.
In 2023, Benjamin Moore will celebrate 140 years in business. Since that time, the company has been dedicated to manufacturing the best paint, color and coatings. From a simple but effective warehouse in Brooklyn in 1883, to today’s cutting-edge R&D facility spanning 80,000 square feet in Flanders, New Jersey—complete with a five-acre test farm— Benjamin Moore’s commitment to innovation remains steadfast. The company proudly makes paint and colorants throughout manufacturing facilities nationwide, with the ability to scale on demand.
Benjamin Moore enjoys an ever-growing network of contractors, homeowners, architects and designers who are fiercely loyal to the brand. They follow the company’s color expertise and rely on its superior product performance. The Benjamin Moore commercial business is thriving because facility managers and building owners—across all industries—see how higher quality paint and coatings save them time and money.
Benjamin Moore paints and coatings are available exclusively from 7,500 locally owned paint, decorating and hardware retailers throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in 75 countries globally. The company’s unique business model empowers independent storeowners and entrepreneurs to bring a highly respected paint and coatings brand to their local communities, as well as benefit from Benjamin Moore’s expertise, leadership, and passion in support of their business.
Benjamin Moore paints outperform, in large part because the company manufactures its own resins, which are the binders that make the film and finish of a paint. Benjamin Moore also manufactures its own colorants, which are the pigments that give paint its unique color and hiding characteristics. The combination of the paint and proprietary Gennex colorants, together, creates breathtaking results that are truly unmatchable. And from a practical standpoint, Benjamin Moore paints’ unique properties yield a smooth, easy application lauded by professional painters and DIY-ers alike.
Benjamin Moore is also deeply committed to important social, environmental and economic responsibilities. Dedicated to improving lives and communities, inside and outside the company, Benjamin Moore donates paint, time and financial support to myriad charities and community organizations.

MNYCA Enjoys Afternoon of Baseball at Yankee Stadium
One of the most popular annual events for the Metro New York Coatings Association (MNYCA) is the afternoon outing at Yankee Stadium. After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the MNYCA returned to the stadium on June 29, 2022. The event, held in the Audi Yankees Club section, included a buffet and a fun time at the stadium for the more than 100 industry attendees.
Aside from seeing friends, there was a game to be enjoyed, and the New York Yankees did their part to make sure the afternoon was complete, beating the Oakland A’s 5-3 behind home runs from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
2022 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
The MNYCA continued with the newest scholarships program for matriculating college students in addition to the traditional scholarship for graduating high school students.
