A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Alicia Colacci, MNYCA President
MNYCA members,
When I joined the board in 2019, I never expected that eventually I would become the first woman President of MNYCA, founded in 1887. I am honored and happy not only to continue the traditions of this historical association but hope to see it grow in numbers and collaboration. To accomplish that requires building a strong network based on our solid history as well as ensuring that there is a path forward for future generations. I am confident that I will have a great deal of support and guidance from the board and fellow members.
Sustainability is the main topic everywhere you turn. The coatings industry has taken this challenge very seriously because it recognizes the importance of sustainable solutions to support global efforts to reduce energy, minimize emissions and usage of resources.
We are still navigating residual supply chain issues, which have improved significantly, as we see a more stabilized supply chain with manageable lead times and availability. Although no significant disruptions are expected, there are many factors that can change that. We must never forget that planning for the future must include a combination of tactics and strategies to anticipate and deal with disruptions.
The collaboration of the MNYCA, Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology and the New England Society for Coatings Technology resulted in another successful Eastern Coatings Show with over 130 exhibitors and featured 42 technical presentations. Moving forward and dealing with unavoidable challenges were prominent topics. Innovations and creativity were a focus of the technical presentations. It was also good to see, for the second time, a successful Businesswomen in Paint & Coatings networking event.
I encourage our members to participate in the association’s annual events and give their support. Many great networking opportunities are available including the upcoming Somerset Patriots (Double A affiliate of the New York Yankees) vs. Bowie Baysox (Double A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) on July 25th and the holiday party at Macaluso’s on November 29th. We are currently developing a forum for the fall.
By continuing to work together, we can build upon what we have already achieved.
The largest regional coatings show in America. Eastern Coating Show was held May 16 – 18, 2023, at Harrah’s Resort, Atlantic City, NJ.

Eastern Coatings Show Offers Educational and Networking Opportunities
Hosted by the Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology, the New England Society for Coatings Technology and the Metropolitan New York Coatings Association, the Eastern Coatings Show offers educational and technical presentations to create an understanding of the theory, science, manufacturing and marketing of coatings.
Held every other year, this year’s Eastern Coatings Show was May 16-18 at Harrah’s in Atlantic City, NJ. The show began with a poolside welcome reception, where attendees and exhibitors had the opportunity to network in a relaxed setting.
The Eastern Coatings Show featured 24 presentations covering three concurrent tracks. The first day the tracks were Achieving High Performance in Industrial Coatings, Coating Technologies for Improved Lifestyles and Formulation Improvement with Additive Technology. The final day of the show featured tracks on Driving Sustainable Coatings with Chemistry, Emerging Technologies and Formulation Improvement with Additive Technology.
After lunch there was a panel discussion, “Where Do We Go from Here? The Future of the Coatings Industry,” which was comprised of Raymond Fernando of California Polytechnic State University, Dean Webster of North Dakota State University, George Pilcher of ChemQuest and Amanda Andrews of Michelman. Coatings Industry Mourns Robert Landzettel
Coatings World - David Savastano, Contributing Editor 06.20.23
Landzettel was born in Paterson and was raised in Fair Lawn. He graduated from Fair Lawn High School in 1953 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University in 1957. He also served in the U.S.Army.
He was active in the paint and coatings industry as well, as he was the owner of Landzettel & Sons, Inc. in Fair Lawn and was a past president of Metro New York Paint and Coating Association (MNYCA).
Leaders from the MNYCA remember Landzettel as a true gentleman.
MNYCA president Dave White, who is VP technical sales at Pan Technology, noted that Landzettel served as president of the MNYCA from 2000-2001, and received the David H. Litter Distinguished Service Award in 2005. He said that his family appreciated the quality they received from Landzettel and Sons.
“My grandfather, who was a very precise individual, and my father would not use any paint unless it was Lazon Paint, which came from Landzettel and Sons,” White recalled.
“Robert was a very knowledgeable person for the paint industry,” said Bruce Schimmel, director of strategic partnerships for Superior Materials, Inc. “He was very soft spoken but was a true gentleman. I can remember when I got on the MNYCA board he told me I can call him anytime to ask questions and he would be glad to help me. He was very warm and always made me feel as if I belong. He was a really good guy.”
“Robert Landzettel was a great member and supporter of the MNYCA over the years, serving as president and given the prestigious David H. Litter Distinguished Service Award,” said Tom Daquila, VP sales at Eagle Specialty Products. “Bob always conducted himself as a true professional in a very low-key sociable manner. Read full story...
